Michelle Hohn, MA, RTC
Registered Therapeutic Counsellor
Michelle is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and is the owner of Akashic Counselling. She is in our new counselling room one day per week and is available on Wednesdays for in-person counselling sessions.
Michelle specializes in loss and grief, anxiety, depression, navigating complex life transitions, and discovering pathways to increased happiness and fulfillment. She also offers Touchstone® – an 8-week, solution-focused program to support mental health, emotional well-being, and greater personal and professional performance. Michelle is available for 1-1 individual sessions, runs ongoing group workshops, and also does corporate advisory work and training. She also offers online/zoom sessions and ecotherapy options (‘walk and talk’) in other time slots throughout the week.
Michelle’s counselling approach is integrative – a flexible and dynamic method that brings together different therapeutic elements from relevant theories and evidence-based techniques to fit the unique needs of each client. Always client-centered, she draws upon several modalities including existential, psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, and narrative therapy. She believes in the importance of mind-body-spirit and its relationship to total wellness. Regardless of modality or technique, her primary focus is the quality of the counselling relationship – a major determinant for growth and change – and ensuring it is one built on genuineness, empathy, respect, trust, and true collaboration.
She holds a BA in Psychology, MA in Communications, certification with the US-based Therapeutic Writing Institute, a diploma in Applied Psychology and Counselling, and is registered with the Association for Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT).
Michelle embraces continuous learning and leaning into intuition. She is passionate about labyrinths and uses their transformative power for her own meditative practice as well as her work with clients. She resides in Nanoose Bay and gratefully enjoys everything our spectacular Island has to offer; most often found, gardening, hiking, mountain biking, or experiencing an on-water lifestyle.
Ready to get started?
The first step is to book your Complimentary 15-minute Consultation with Michelle.
Consults are offered on Tuesday afternoons, between 2-4 pm*, and take place over the telephone or online via Zoom. This is your opportunity to connect and see if you feel Michelle is a good counselling ‘fit’ for you before embarking on your healing journey together. It also gives you a chance to share a bit about why you are seeking therapy at this time and to ensure your needs align with Michelle’s scope of practice. And, if insurance coverage is important to you, we want to ensure your benefits and policy cover Michelle’s credentials before getting started.
